When is a common mock fight with pillows more than just that? The answer is when tens of thousands of people of all ages gather to pummel each other in more than 100 cities around the world in what is thought to be one of the world’s largest flash mobs.
In New York, the eleventh annual massive pillow fight event took place in Washington Square Park this year. However in the US alone there were also events in Ashland (KY), Atlanta, Buxton (NC), Chicago, Cincinnati, Lawrence (MA), Philadelphia, Portland, Saint Louis, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Tallahassee, and Washington, DC.
Organizers say the event does have rules. The pillows must be soft and feather free. You can’t hit anybody without a pillow or with a camera, and you have to take your pillow with you when you leave or donate it.
The event wasn’t hard to find, said Angela Juarez, who recorded the event for The Massing Lab. “All you had to do was follow the people carrying pillows!”
